Informing Democracy Condemns Trump’s Clemency for Violent Jan 6 Criminals

Yesterday, after Donald Trump pardoned and commuted the sentences of over 1,500 people convicted or charged with attacking the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, Informing Democracy Managing Director Peter Bondi issued the following statement:

“This unacceptable action by Donald Trump not only emboldens the election denier movement behind the insurrection, but it also sanctions future political violence and threatens free and fair elections.

“Those who engage in political violence and attacks on our elections must be met with justice and with accountability, not given a get-out-of-jail-free card and a green light to continue undermining our democracy.”
