Condemning Senate Confirmation of Pam Bondi as Attorney General

Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, the U.S. Senate confirmed Pam Bondi as Attorney General—a position that serves a critical role in enforcing the rule of law and protecting the right to vote for all Americans. In response, Informing Democracy Managing Director Peter Bondi issued the following statement:

“Pam Bondi’s continued refusal to admit that Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election and her active participation in the scheme to overturn its results demonstrate a willingness to undermine our elections and democratic institutions for political gain. Those truths alone should have been disqualifying.

“At a time when our democracy remains under assault, the American people need in their Attorney General a fierce defender of our laws and a champion of free and fair elections, not an acolyte of a president who shows continued contempt for our Constitution.

“Bondi's confirmation signals a dangerous step backwards for our democracy, and if she uses the office to advocate for the president’s loyalties over the people’s rights, it will be her name that is remembered for charting that dangerous path.”
