Statement On the Inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States
On the day Donald Trump is inaugurated as the 47th President of United States, Informing Democracy Managing Director Peter Bondi issued the following statement:
“Today’s inauguration follows, and stands in stark contrast to, the same series of events just four years ago after which Donald Trump was indicted over a conspiracy to interfere with the lawful transfer of power. Though Trump’s criminal prosecution ended before trial, that truth cannot be forgotten and the threat to democracy he represents is now even greater.
“Trump, and the anti-democracy movement he leads, must be countered to ensure our democracy remains as vibrant for America’s next 250 years as it was for the nearly 250 years before Trump and his followers tried to upend it. Informing Democracy will continue to shine a light on election administration and hold accountable anyone who tries to undermine our free and fair elections.
“As we did in nearly a dozen states over the last year, we will continue to expose the election denial movement and equip pro-democracy advocates with the tools they need to defend our elections from it.”
