Georgia 2024: Vote Counting and Election Certification Processes

While some states have further solidified their election administration law to improve transparency and increase confidence in elections, Georgia has done the opposite, with rogue officials determined to add uncertainty into its process just weeks before votes are to be cast.

Election conspiracy theorists have pushed for unnecessary changes in the law that are creating monumental shifts in how elections are conducted in the state—many of which go against settled law and are being challenged in the courts.

Our report provides a detailed look at the potential vulnerabilities that could pose a risk to the counting and certification process.

The report also details each step of the counting and certification processes that govern Georgia’s elections and the offices and personnel that oversee these steps.

While there is no reason to expect Georgia’s election results will reflect anything but the will of the voters (the state has many protections in place to safeguard its election processes, including a statute that makes the certification process non-discretionary), the recent changes are alarming — and demand close monitoring and attention.

Our mission is to provide the necessary background and research to allow our pro-democracy partners to closely watch the state through the election and take corrective action as needed.
