Informing Democracy Statement On Charges In Michigan Fake Electors Case
Today, after the Michigan Attorney General announced the charging of 16 people who signed false paperwork stating Donald Trump had won Michigan’s 16 electoral votes and claiming to be the state’s qualified electors, Informing Democracy’s Director of Legal Research Jenny Gimian issued the following statement:
“Our democracy rests on the foundation that voters are the ones who decide elections. The attempt to change the slate of presidential electors in Michigan was an outrageous and disturbing power grab, driven by misinformation and conspiracy theories.
We commend Attorney General Nessel for upholding the rule of law by seeking accountability for this blatant attempt to subvert the will of Michigan voters.”
